Welcome to the Website of Ryburn and Halifax Angling Society.
Welcome to 2016 everyone! The
club in in a very healthy position and we are grateful for all your support during these trying times.
the rise in rents, etc, we have reluctantly been forced to increse the price of the yearbook to £25 for adults and £12.50
for concessions. Junior prices will remain at £5 for the the year, but we have lifted the age of senior membership to
18 and over. We have also come inline with Environmental Agency rules that state junior anglers do not need a club yearbook
until they reach the age of 12.
Members will need to be aware of the new construction at "Stern Mill"
by the new bridge. The council has fenced the area off & we should all keep to the footpaths on the riverside and not
remove or open any fencing to gain access. Construction of new road, landfill and tree cutting will all take place this year
we are told. Plans are to build 194 new houses between the canal and river, and 18 industrial units across the other side
of the River Calder.
Again, the Environmental Agency has been very fair with us. They removed 20 pairs of grayling
from the river, stripped them of eggs and grown on and returned 1,000 small fish back into the river at various points.
For you course lads, the river has produced a few big chub & barbel. Some big pike have been coming out at Stern
Mills and the canal should definitely not be dismissed.
The match scene has been visited by lots of club lads and
a good crowd fish on a regular basis and is more for fun than the money match programme. The Wednesday evening league is more
for the seasoned lads and is a tad more difficult to tame!
The work at the Swamp Dam has been completed, with 20
platforms installed & a new bank on the far side. A new entrance and a topcoat on the car park have also added to the appeal
of the water. Some 4,000 fish have been stocked, with chub, bream, roach, tench, ide and barble amongst those integrated.
We have added new European signs to existing club signs.
Our three bailiffs, Tim, John and Paul will
be up and down all year round. Feel free to have a chat and introduce yourselves. Have a great year. Remember to report anyone
(or anything!) not fishing to the rules to the club secretary.
